For the second year in a row, Todae Solar has been ranked by SunWiz Consulting as Australia’s largest commercial solar installer. SunWiz’s data confirms that Todae Solar installed more commercial solar than any other company in 20161 and are the market leaders in delivering large, complex opportunities like Aegis Aged Care’s 3.24MW rollout, St Vincent’s 2.7MW rollout and CSU’s 1.77MW system in addition to many commercial systems for SMEs.

Todae Solar - #1 Commercial Solar Installer 2016Todae Solar led the booming 2016 C&I solar sector according to Sunwiz Consulting. The sector finished 2016 with the greatest market penetration in recent history with 32% of all installations under the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme being installed in the space. This is almost a 20% increase from 2015.

2016 turned out to be such a strong year in the C&I space due to a number of factors; significant reductions in solar module component costs, strong Large-scale Generation Certificate (LGC) market prices, increasing energy prices nationally and improved installation techniques and economies of scale amongst installers resulting in increasingly affordable C&I solar systems. On top of these external factors there was an increased general comfort and awareness by business owners that solar makes commercial sense as a tool to reduce overheads.

Based on the above factors dozens and dozens of SME’s proceeded with solar to join numerous Tier 1 organisations who invested in solar; some of these included Aegis Care, Transport NSW, NRMA, The Department of Defence, Accor, Australian Vintage, Griffiths University, Royal Wolf, BHP, Kmart, St Vincent’s, AstraZeneca, Charles Sturt University and numerous councils nationally.

Todae Solar finished off the year with a number of impressive projects being brought on board to end the year with a bang. Todae Solar was chosen by:

  • Doug Hall Poultry – 952kW: Doug Hall will expand their existing 100kW ground-mount system at Yandilla to 1052kW. Todae Solar previously installed two separate 100kW ground-mount systems at Yandilla and Turallin. Impressed by the process, the savings and the quality of the product, Doug Hall has opted to partner with Todae Solar again to expand their system.
  • University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) – 105kW: UTS will install a 105kW pilot system on the main campus in Ultimo. The system will feature an innovative design utilising high efficiency panels in order to maximise the limited roof space common for high rise city buildings. UTS will be joining Australian Universities like UNSW and CSU that are turning their roofs into value-adding assets.
  • ISPT – 90kW: ISPT have contracted Todae Solar to install two pilot systems on iconic CBD buildings in both Sydney and Melbourne.
  • Breakers Country Club to install a 100kW system on the roof of their RSL in Wamberal.

With these projects on top of what is already a strong pipeline of projects for the likes of St Vincent’s, CSU and many more, we expect this momentum to continue into 2017.

Looking forward this year, we expect many more organisations to turn to solar as a logical tool to reduce overheads and provide increased certainty in a time of economic fluctuation. These are very exciting times and we look forward to another amazing and fascinating year.

Todae Solar has assisted the Pullman Quay Grand Sydney at Circular Quay to add a little more sun in Sydney Harbour. The Pullman Quay Grand is known as one of Sydney’s premier hotels with its sophisticated style and arguably the best views of the Harbour.

Following in the footsteps of the Novotel at Sydney Olympic Park and the Sebel at the Hawkesbury, the Pullman Quay Grand was determined to decrease their carbon footprint and selected Todae Solar in a competitive process to install a 100kW commercial solar system.

The 100kW PV system features 350 solar panels which will produce approximately 135,000kWh per year, covering around 10.5% of their electricity bill. The system will also provide a 20 year Carbon Abatement of around 2500 tonnes.

The Pullman Quay Grand selected Todae Solar based on our experience in delivering exception results on challenging projects like Parliament House in Canberra. The challenging location of the project required extensive planning, coordination and care to complete the project within a tight deadline and with minimum disruption to the thousands of tourists visiting the beautiful harbour. The logistics of the project were extremely challenging with the structural fittings alone for the project weighing around 21 tonnes. These had to be delivered to the roof via an elevator before being carried manually up another set of stairs.

Despite additional last minute obstacles from the City of Sydney Council and extreme weather, Todae Solar completed the installation with minimum disturbance due to our extensive experience and expertise – delivering another great installation to a happy client.

The Pullman Quay Grand adds another sterling project to Todae Solar’s portfolio of commercial solar installations.

Todae Solar are very proud to have partnered and delivered such an iconic project at one of the most iconic locations not just in Sydney but Australia.

Victoria is one of the countries strongest commercial solar markets despite not having the solar irradiation resources of some other states. Victoria sat 3rd in overall commercial solar installations in 2016 according to Sunwiz Consulting.

Recently, Todae Solar have completed the installations of a 50kW system for Concept Caravans in Campbellfield and a 100kW system for Geelong High School in Geelong.

Concept Caravans

Concept Caravans

Both Concept Caravans and Geelong High School were looking at ways to reduce their monthly electrical bills while becoming more sustainable. For Geelong High School, teaching the next generation and improving community engagement with renewable energy were other key driving factors. For their system, 2 of the inverters have been specifically installed in their science lab, which will give students in their “Environmental Course” access to the system. This innovative idea  gives their students the chance to monitor and analyse the data from the system over time as the solar generation changes. Such an interactive initiative will significantly improve the understanding of solar generation for their students. We’re excited to see how students interact with the system in the future.

We’re proud to have completed installations for such organisations that are vital for their local communities. We congratulate both Concept Caravans and Geelong High School on their decision to go ahead with solar.

These two installations showcase Todae Solar’s unrivalled experience at delivering impressive solar projects, no matter the location or type of client, as Australia’s #1 commercial solar installer.

The trial roll-out of a 280kW commercial solar system for NSW Transport (Sydney Trains) is in the process of completion. NSW Transport is the government cluster responsible for shaping and managing NSW’s transport systems. Transport NSW selected Todae Solar as part of a competitive tender due to our vast experience in delivering high quality installations under strict WHS requirements. The systems will produce approximately 410,000kWh’s of energy for 14 Sydney Train network bases located throughout Sydney. The rollout is a pilot to test the reliability and savings of solar and will help NSW Transport assess options to meet its environment and sustainability goals.

While designing the systems were fairly straight forward, the challenge arose in ensuring the systems met the stringent technical standards required by NSW Transport in addition to regular building and industry technical standards.

NSW Transport

Todae Solar worked closely with Sydney Trains to ensure all installations met the requirements and were installed according to specification. The initial client feedback has been positive around Todae Solar’s quality, attention to detail and overall installation performance.

Todae Solar has significant experience with stringent WHS requirements having installed solar for numerous Tier 1 organisations like BUPA, Stockland, Ramsay Healthcare, Kmart and many more.

Another example of Todae Solar’s excellent WHS standards was evident on the recently completed the installation of a 100kW system for Total Marine Technology (TMT) in Bibra Lake, WA. TMT manufactures remote submarines and the high-risk nature of their industry necessitated our installers follow their strict WHS procedures, which are some of the most stringent we’ve ever come across. The system is expected to annually generate approximately 168,000kWh of electricity and cover 40% of TMT’s power bill. TMT were extremely happy and commended Todae Solar on the installation.

Our highly detail-oriented engineers, project managers and installers have an abundance of experience and flexibility in adapting to the needs and requirements of our clients. For example, the Department of Parliamentary Services had their own stringent requirements for the installation of the 43kW system for Parliament House. UNSW also has their own meticulous design and quality requirements. Experience and flexibility enabled Todae Solar to adapt to these requirements to complete these complex installations within often tight project deadlines. Click here to see their testimonials.

Todae Solar is committed to delivering the highest quality solar installations and will go the extra mile to ensure our quality. This means our systems will last for the long term, producing renewable energy, year after year.

A 100kW commercial solar system is now operational at the Historical Aircraft Recreation Society (HARS). In October 2016, Todae Solar completed the installation for the popular specialist not-for-profit museum located within the Illawarra Regional Airport in Albion Park, NSW. HARS is home to Australia’s biggest collection of historical aircraft, particularly those of significance to Australian Aviation history. The most recent addition to the Society was a Boeing 747-400 known as The Canberra, the oldest aircraft in Qantas’ fleet. It is a popular destination that has received a Certificate of Excellence on Tripadvisor.com.

Historial Aircraft Restoration - Commercial Solar

Historial Aircraft Restoration – Commercial Solar

The system is expected to produce approximately 134,000kWh of electricity per year and cover 62.9% of the organisation’s electricity bill. It is also expected to offset 2,549 tonnes of carbon emissions over its lifetime. As HARS is located within an airport, our engineers and installers had to take extra care to ensure the operations of the airport were not disrupted which involved ensuring compliance with the rules and regulations set out by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and Airservices Australia. In particular, a reflectivity and glare study was conducted to ensure the panels did not affect pilots approaching or leaving the airstrip. Todae Solar has significant experience in conducting reflectivity studies, which can often be quite onerous and challenging, having completed them in the past for installations in near airports in both Canberra and Bankstown.

Despite the additional challenges, airports are great locations for commercial solar systems. They are typically situated on open landscape with minimal shading from nearby buildings or trees. Apart from rooftops, they also have un-utilised land by the airstrip that is perfect for low profile ground-mounted solar systems. Airports also typically have very high operating costs which a solar system can help drastically reduce. Todae Solar congratulates HARS for their new system and hope it becomes an example of the significant environmental and financial savings organisations can leverage through solar.

The Rise of Solar in the Healthcare Sector

$

Healthcare organisations need to sit up and take notice as leaders in the industry start to embrace solar on a large scale level. The past couple years saw a steady flow of pilot projects within the industry including 100kW systems for Sydney Adventist Hospital at Wahroonga, NSW and Ramsay Healthcare’s Hollywood Private Hospital in Nedlands, WA.

More recently, Concord Hospital joined these innovative healthcare providers with a 100kW pilot project earlier this year. West Gippsland Health raised the bar further with the installation of a 289kW system on the roofs of West Gippsland Hospital, Warragul Community Health Centre and three other sites in Victoria.

Reviews from these hospitals have been overwhelmingly positive and all were very happy with the design and installation process as well as the quality of the final product. Of particular importance was the way Todae Solar accommodated the extra sensitivity that hospitals have towards service disruptions. Constant communication ensured the hospital was always up to date on progress and scheduled shutdowns, and allowed queries and issues to be resolved quickly. Todae Solar also minimises physical disruption. Logistics were organised so installers did not get in the way of hospital staff and just-in-time inventory management reduced the amount of space required for equipment storage.

A representative from Concord Hospital said in a testimonial they were “very pleased with the result, particularly the excellent workmanship… and the quality of the system installed”. Professionalism, project management and communication skills were vital to ”ensure that there was minimal disruption to the day to day operation of the Mental Health Unit” which operates 24 hours a day and is particularly sensitive to disruption from construction work.

St Vincent’s Health, has taken the lead within the healthcare sector and has committed to what will likely be a game-changing solar rollout for the industry. A 2.7MW solar system will be installed across 16 sites in NSW, VIC and QLD. With the announcement of this landmark project, we expect other healthcare organisations to take notice and see the multi-faceted benefits of solar.

Solar is not limited to the large healthcare organisations as Todae Solar has installed solar for a number of  SME healthcare providers such as Bulli Medical Practice, Warragul Family Medicine and Central Coast TCM. Solar for SME’s in healthcare can have a dramatic effect on overheads with all of the aforementioned SME’s covering around 50% of their energy costs.

We expect to see this trend grow as more healthcare providers follow the lead of trailblazers like St Vincent’s Health. Contact Todae Solar to find out more about these projects or how your organisation can take advantage of our innovative solar solutions.
